Abstract
This study examines the concept of Hal within Islamic theology, focusing on its contested relationship with the Law of the Excluded Middle. The research is structured around five key themes: the position of theologians who affirm Hal and its significance in kalām discourse; the interpretation of the Excluded Middle by its proponents; the definition and typology of Hal; the levels of disagreement between affirmers and deniers; and the origins of its ambiguity and rationale for adoption. The central aim is to refute claims that the doctrine of Hal entails a breach of logical principles, while clarifying its problematic aspects. Methodologically, the study employs the kalām approach of deduction and dialectical reasoning. Its findings include the identification of a third category of Hal, the classification of disputes into verbal and substantive levels, and the affirmation that even among its proponents, Hal does not contradict the Law of the Excluded Middle. The research thus contributes to resolving ambiguities surrounding Hal and safeguarding the coherence of kalām metaphysics and epistemology.
