"The Astronomical Revolution": A Reading of Alexandre Koyre's Book
Abstract
The review of the book The Astronomical Revolution: Copernicus -Kepler - Borelli translated by Youssef Ben Othman for its author Alexandre Koyre aims to follow the effort made by the author as he defines the meanings of concepts and their transformation in the work of three scientists whose works caused a scientific revolution that paved the way for the discovery of the theory of universal gravitation. The astronomical revolution, as an epistemological concept indicating intellectual changes and a tool for explaining the emergence of modern science, did not happen suddenly, but rather extended over more than a century, during which thought worked to build new concepts that prepared the theoretical framework that made the possibility of moving from the closed world to the open universe possible. The aim of Koyre in studying the influence of Copernicus, Kepler and Borelli was to draw the history of the astronomical revolution from the perspective of the development of concepts and their transformation without paying attention to the history of meteorology and the construction of observatories that contributed to the revolution and prepared for its occurrence. The author of the book The Astronomical Revolution revealed the rupture caused by Copernicus, Kepler and Borelli, indicating the importance of correcting errors to reach scientific truth, because the value of error is no different from the value of truth in studying the history of scientific thought according to Alexandre Koyre .
