Bocard Strasbourg Excursion
Abstract
This article is a translation of the text of the journey of Bouchard, who is also named Gerard. He is a German traveler who served as the vicar of the German city of Strasbourg (also known as Agentinentsim or Argenturatensis). The German Emperor Frederick I (547-586 AH = 1152-1190 AD) sent him in 571 AH (= 1175 AD) as an ambassador to Sultan Salah Al-Din Al-Ayyubi (567-589 AH = 1171-1193 AD), under the system of diplomatic relations that were formed between the two parties before the recovery of Salah Al-Din of the city of Jerusalem and many other Crusader possessions after the Battle of Hattin (583 AH = 1178 AD).
