Modernist Studies of the Holy Qur’an: From Claims of Renewal to Raising Suspicions
Abstract
This research aims to warn the readers of the errors and distortions included in the modernist studies of the Holy Qur’an, especially the studies of Hassan Hanafi, Tayeb Tizini, and Mohammad Shahrour. It also aims to clarify outdated suspicions raised by orientalists about the Holy Qur’an, which our people have reformulated in new molds under the pretext of renewal and rationality. The research dealt with the studies of Hassan Hanafi, "From the Suspicion of the Creation of the Qur'an to the Suspicion of the Materiality of Revelation" and "Tayeb Tizini and Illusions of the History of the Qur'anic Text", Mohammad Shahrour, "From the Suspicion of Rearranging the Qur'an to the Suspicion of Disrupting the Attributes of God Almighty". It concluded that Hassan Hanafi, Tayeb Tizini, and Mohammad Shahrour raised a number of doubts and suspicions in their modernist studies of the Holy Qur’an, which they consider real scientific problems that the Muslim researcher must take into consideration and find answers and solutions for. In fact, it is nothing more than a departure from truth and following materialists and orientalists who have, since ancient times, tried to undermine the Holy Quran.
