Qur’anic Methodological Determinants for Resuming Renewal in the Science of Jurisprudence: A Reading of Taha Jaber Al-Alwani’s Project

This study explores Taha Jabir Al‑Alwani’s distinctive project of renewing Islamic jurisprudence (uṣūl al‑fiqh) through Quranic methodological principles, emphasizing his effort to re‑examine diverse fields of Islamic knowledge by grounding them in the overarching framework of revelation. It outlines the significance of renewal, its methodological parameters, and the priority issues within this approach, employing a descriptive‑analytical method to trace and deconstruct Al‑Alwani’s concepts while applying critical evaluation. Structured into four sections—concepts, reasons for resuming renewal, Quranic parameters, and priority issues—the research concludes that the rules of jurisprudence are a relative human endeavor requiring ongoing review, and that Quranic parameters provide the most authoritative and secure foundation for renewal, ensuring the discipline’s continued relevance and effectiveness in addressing contemporary challenges.
