Abstract
This research examines the renewal of jurisprudential methodology in the eighth century AH, focusing on the intellectual crisis of the time and Imam al-Shatibi’s response to it. Employing a descriptive-analytical approach, the study gathers and interprets data to construct explanatory models, combining description to collect and compare facts with analysis to deconstruct, evaluate, and synthesize scholarly problems. Structured into three sections, it first outlines the historical context of methodological renewal, then explores the features of the crisis confronting jurisprudence in al-Shatibi’s era, and finally analyzes his approaches to renewal. Central questions include the characteristics of al-Shatibi’s renewal, the influence of historical reality on his intellectual project, and his use of terminological and methodological tools. The study highlights al-Shatibi’s critique of rigid jurisprudential principles and his call to link texts with lived reality and the objectives of Islamic law, thereby achieving effective legal reasoning through an integrative and ethical approach that balanced tradition with renewal.
