Abstract
This study investigates Ibn Rushd’s philosophy on the relationship between divine action and human action through a comparative analytical lens that integrates metaphysical and ethical dimensions. It first emphasizes divine action as absolute, perfect, necessary, timeless, and unchanging, serving as the ultimate source of existence. Then, it explores human action, shaped by will and choice, highlighting the tension between freedom and divine predestination. Ibn Rushd critiques thinkers like al-Ghazali and Ibn Sina by rejecting the notion of divine will being bound to time, instead affirming its absoluteness. His perspective establishes a middle ground where human freedom coexists with responsibility, offering a balanced framework that connects human agency to the First Cause. Ultimately, Ibn Rushd’s approach provides a nuanced understanding of causality and responsibility within divine providence.
