Abstract
This study investigates how Jürgen Habermas’s communication theory addresses the interplay between religion and democracy, employing a critical analytical lens to trace the evolution of his stance on religion’s role in the public sphere and the reasons behind these shifts. It examines how Habermas redefines the concept of the public sphere, underscores the centrality of deliberative democracy, and considers its prospects amid tensions between religious and secular perspectives. Ultimately, the research highlights Habermas’s proposal for coexistence, which requires the semantic translation of religious discourse within official institutions.
