Computerized Interpretation of the Content of Visions and Dreams in Ta’teer Alana’am fi Ta’beer Al-Ro’yah wal Mana’am "Perfuming the Senses in the Interpretation of Visions and Dreams"
Abstract
This study explores the application of artificial intelligence and natural language processing to analyze Ta’teer Alana’am fi Ta’beer Al-Ro’yah wal Mana’am by Imam Abdul Ghani Al-Nabulsi, aiming to reinterpret classical Islamic dream interpretation texts through a computational lens. By converting the unstructured manuscript into structured digital data, the research uncovers underlying cognitive and semantic patterns using both surface-level and deep linguistic analysis, identifying over 164,000 linguistic units, 328 personal names, and 87 locations. The findings highlight Al-Nabulsi’s interpretive framework, which is structured around six key dimensions, including linguistic and symbolic contexts, dream classification, and temporal-spatial relevance. A comparative study with Ibn Sirin’s work reveals Al-Nabulsi’s methodological evolution through broader classifications and integration of diverse sources. Ultimately, the research demonstrates the feasibility of building an AI-driven system for dream interpretation rooted in Islamic tradition, bridging classical scholarship with modern computational tools to lay the foundation for a digital science of dream analysis.
