Abstract

This research aims to complete the traditional philosophical deification project, based on contemporary epistemological foundations and the tools of analytical philosophy, to highlight the logical coherence of the hypothesis of the existence of God and the meaning it entails trying to divide it into four axes: the first was concerned with the history of the project extending to the Platonic theory of ideals, with a focus on the medieval Christian tradition. The second axis presents the new formulation of the project, based on the epistemological apparatus of Bayes’ theorem in probability theory, to prove that the hypothesis of the existence of God meets the three criteria of the theorem. The third axis also responded to various objections to the philosophical deification project (logical, existential, ethical). The fourth axis discusses the projects competing with the philosophical deification project, whether complementary or intertwined with it (reformist epistemology, Wittgensteinian fideism, practical theology, and critical theory). The research concludes by proving the ability of the philosophical deification project to confront various detailed objections to the coherence of traditional faith, due to its reliance on the standards of correct rationality. Betting on its utmost importance in our contemporary existence: epistemologically; through its ability to overcome the shortcomings of materialistic interpretation, and provide answers to the problem of teleology that science stood helpless, and morally; where the increasing rise of atheism, and the proportion of doubts about the existence of God - even among followers of monotheistic religions - imposes on philosophers.
