The Journey of Semantics: From Self-Development to the Science of Quranic Semantics
Abstract
This study explores the importance of semantics (meaning) in understanding the Qur’anic text, and how the connotations of Qur’anic words have developed over the time of revelation. This research is divided into three sections: the first is on semantics, the second is on semantic development, its causes and manifestations, and the third is on semantic development and the semantics of the Qur’an. This study followed the method of description, analysis and criticism, relying on induction in constructing the judgments and results it reached, which are: that the Arabs and Muslims had a great awareness of semantics and applied it in their various sciences and that semantics in the Holy Qur’an witnessed a noticeable development in many Qur’anic concepts.
