Repetition, Alliteration, and The Construction and Interpretation of Meaning in the Poetic Experience of Ibn Al-Abar Al-Quda’i Al-Balansi
Abstract
This study seeks to demonstrate the role played by phonetic rhetoric - as a branch of rhetoric - in constructing and interpreting poetic meaning in ancient Arabic poetry within the framework of the duality of reception and interpretation, which leads to the creation of effective indirect communication between the creator and the recipient. We chose the poetic experience in the Islamic West with one of its righteous pioneers, the poet Ibn Al-Abar Al-Quda’i Al-Balansi, due to his inspiring poetic experience that oscillated between expression, communication, and influence. The study was limited to the duality of repetition and alliteration to stand on the content of this rhetorical duality in constructing meaning and receiving it in ancient Arabic poetry.
