Report the International Symposium: «Early Jurisprudential Trends and the Question of Origin»
Abstract
This report aims to inform researchers about the proceedings of the symposium “Early Jurisprudential Trends and the Question of Origin,” and to bring them closer to the presented papers. According to the participants, our understanding of the development of early Islamic jurisprudence has been challenged by the lack of earlier sources. Therefore, the symposium papers attempted to reconstruct a new historical perception of the emergence of early Islamic jurisprudence and to examine the common assumptions among historians.
By summarizing presented papers and the following discussions, this report is a useful gateway to the proceedings and outcomes of the symposium. We hope that this symposium has opened new horizons for the study of early jurisprudential texts with diverse approaches and new perspectives and has paved the way for exploring new methods for how scientific institutions and traditions have developed in Islamic civilization.
