From Salvation to Empowerment. European Notes on Contemporary American Religion
Abstract
This article is a translation of Jan Bremer's article "From Salvation to Empowerment: European Notes on American Religion." The article tries to provide a complete view of the American religion and its relation to it. It also attempts to answer "What is the current state of contemporary American religion?". It concludes that there is nowhere to expect a return to the practices that dominated during the 19th and early 20th centuries. However, striking the right balance between individuality and active participation in the broader community is a challenge for all of us.
