Rooting Comparison of Religions in Contemporary Arab-Islamic Culture: Characteristics and Problems
Abstract
This research aims to approach the rooting of comparative religions in contemporary Arab-Islamic culture: its characteristics and problems. It addresses the contemporary features of comparative religion, the methodological and epistemological problems of comparative religion, and the reality of comparative religion in contemporary Arab culture. It concludes that there is no institute specialized in comparative religious studies in Arab universities, except for some limited experiments. On the other hand, departments of comparative religions have been opened in most Western universities since the beginning of the last century. This was one of the most important reasons for reducing awareness of the importance of comparison and deepening it. However, there are pioneering Islamic studies in this field, whether in Arabic or other languages.
