Towards Building a Theory of Rational Belief: William James as a Model
Abstract
The research aims to propose a conception of building a theory of rational belief through the propositions of the pragmatist William James. It was based on epistemology. It studied the religious experience based on the notions: Are religious beliefs real? Do religious feelings have a useful practical effect? How is religious behavior ethical? The research contained an introduction and two chapters. The first chapter dealt with the role of faith in the theory of knowledge. The second dealt with the rational faith of William James. The research concluded that it is necessary to see the obvious value of the works of William James in the fields of faith and apologetics for Christian religious beliefs. It recommended that the believer should leave the safe cover in asking for evidence and hasten towards faith.
