Exploring the Dualism of Reason and Religion in the Thought of Muhammad Bin Al- Hasan Al- Hajoui
Abstract
The research delves into the intricate relationship between religion and reason, examining the dialectic of connection and complementarity versus contradiction and collision. Focusing on the influential scholar, jurist, and reformer Muhammad Bin Al-Hasan Al-Hajoui Al-Thaʿālibī Al-Fāsī (died 1376 – 1956 H) in Moroccan intellectual history, it aims to showcase his efforts in reconciling religious texts with modern rationalism and dispelling suspicions of inconsistency. This research sheds light on Al-Hajoui's approach, emphasizing harmony between reason and religion. It also explores his engagement with various intellectual trends, including Western thought and Islamic theological groups like the Mu’tazila. The result of the research was that reason and religion are characterized by compatibility, complementarity, non-collision or disagreement.
