The Social Contract or Democracy: A Philosophical Question

Abstract

This article is subsumed under the field of philosophy of law and highlights the difference between social contract and democracy. The author identified these differences, analyzed and compared them based on the philosophies that characterized several historical periods. He opened his article by talking about the social contract and its relation to the philosophy of natural right. Then, he highlighted the relation between the modern social contract - modern contractualism - and instrumental democracy, and how this is a problematic relation that has no way out except resorting to non-instrumental democracy.
