The crisis of modern values and the need for Islamic ethics: a critique of the philosophy of Muhammad Aziz al-Hababi
Abstract
This article examined the values in the philosophy of Muhammad Aziz AL-Habbabi through an analysis of his book, “The Crisis of Values" , through which he contributed to the creation of a critical philosophical discourse on the reality of contemporary man by giving a diagnosis of such reality and disclosure of its contradictions, as well as highlighting the incoherence of the ideological discourses produced on it, more specifically his criticism of discourse and the practice of Arab materialistic philosophy. Al-habbabi also proposed theoretical and practical alternatives to reduce the risks of ethical crises. His proposals are fed by the creativity of human mind before getting misled by ideology, and are supported by the innovative powers of faith which are supposed to create harmony between people in the globe regardless of their differences. Al-habbabi concluded that values should be assessed, evaluated and established in theory and practice; that value crisis cannot be eliminated without having the means of diagnosis; and that faith has a vital role in human life which is alone capable of taking care of and developing human values.
